dress-to-skirt DIY

Hey guys!

It's been such a boring weekend for me, so I've finally been able to do some sewing. I bought a dress that I LOVED back in October of 2011, but long story short, it ended up unfortunately shrinking the chest of the dress so much there was major tugging and the occasional button popping. One instance, my friend let me walk around a public place with my shirt popped open and did not tell me...no fun.

So yesterday night and today, I cut up the dress and sewed it into a skirt, which was suuuper easy. All I had to do was add elastic and BAM. lol.  It turned out kind of short, but that's just because I got a little overzealous with the hemming. (I ended up hemming twice- I forgot to put the elastic in the first go around T.T) Anyways, I think it turned out cute.

I started with this dress:

I think it turned out pretty well...
Disclaimer: This is not an OOTD, I just put the skirt on to show you guys. I happened to be wearing my mom's pullover from the 80's which, I guess kind of looks cute with the skirt so I might wear it out like this sometime with tights in cold weather.

I also happen to be wearing birthday kitty socks...they were too cute to leave out of the post!

Summer Wishlist

Hey guys!
It's May....the last full month of the school year. Since I've been an adamant school-hater since the 1st grade (In fact, I hated school so much I would hide behind stuff in our living room. My plan sort of backfired as instead of letting me stay home from school because of this, all my mom did was drag me out from behind a potted plant by my ankles. A plant...great hiding place, right? Not so much.) Aaanyways, sorry for rambling. So, as summer is fast approaching...well two months away...I am starting to put a list together of all of the things I want to buy over the summer when I visit my mom's family. (Which is super duper exciting because I haven't seen my aunts/uncles/grandpa in over a year.) Anyways, this is a list of (most) the things I will be willing to splurge on to make my life a little bit more colorful for the next year

ULTIMATE WISHLIST

So basically if you want the thingy that tells you where everything is from, it's down at the bottom of the post.  Anyways, I guess I'll explain in greater detail about the things in the wishlist!
  1. Shoes by Swedish Hasbeens...These are just too awesome for words. I love the vintage and kinda different feel to these, not to mention that they are made of VEGETABLE LEATHER......These are so amazing and it is so hard to find a pretty clog that is not made with leather. The only downside is that these are très chere...
  2. Skirt with crop toppy thing. Okay, I don't really know the name for this, but I think they're actually adorable. I love the vintage one in blue! It's so cute. I need something like this.
  3. Makeup. I can never really have enough although I don't use much in my daily life. I generally buy makeup from smaller, definitely cruelty-free makeup brands online like Medusa's makeup and Limecrime. I love Limecrime.
  4. Everyday dresses. I'm not so much of a shorts/pants kind of girl...what can I say. Skirts and dresses are my staples and I always need more.
  5. Let's not forget books here in this mostly fashion related post! I always order a f*ck ton of books off of amazon...It's just my thing. Also I would like to buy a copy of Ghost World by Daniel Clowes. I really want to read the graphic novel after falling in love with the movie, so I can only imagine how good the graphic novel is ('Cause the book is ALWAYS better....it's a fact.)
  6. Hair clips. I love how cutesy and whimsical these are. These are super cheap and look super amazing on Tavi Geveinson in this picture. But then again, when DOESN"T Tavi look amazing.
  7. Vegan Docs! I had a pair of Docs ages ago, but unfortunately they were lost in the process of moving ( :'( ) These are super cool, I love how they look when worn with a cutesy dress to kind of off-set the cutesy-ness? And these are vegan too. Woot.
  8. New Headphones! Maybe if I have headphones instead of earbuds I wont rip them to shreds as easily...I really want a cute vintage inspired pair like these.
  9. Red tights...I love the way these look! I'm so late on this trend-ish thing, but I just think these are too adorable not to buy. And hopefully I can find some like these at Targé for cheap.
  10. Cute socks! I can never have enough....
  11. More jewelry, especially necklaces.
  12. Vegan leather bags...I have two, but one's too fancy and the other is lost. Hmph. I've been stuck carrying around a small canvas backpack for months.
  13. Vegan loafers.
  14. Black hair dye. Preferably permanent. I am planning on dying my hair black rather soon-ish. I'm super excited.
Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed! BTW, here's the thingy down below.

OOTD: Space Doughnuts.

Hey guys!
As of last Friday night at 3:30 I am done with exams forever. Or at least until next year. Anyways, to relax a little bit, my friend and I went shopping. While the day had a minor incident involving a rather elusive thrift store it was overall awesome and I managed to buy a lot of cool stuff...including another lush face mask...I'm addicted.
Anyways, this is what I wore.

Sorry I only had two (kinda crappy) photos. I was super rushed when taking these pictures because I was running late...heh. Anyways, I picked up this awesome shirt (which is actually a tunic, just tucked in) at a music festival I went to last year. I wore this along with black cable knit socks and white oxfords, and surprisingly only one or two people actually stared at my shirt. I don't really know whether that makes me happy or not.
Anyways, now I'm rambling, so I will go!
Post soon! <3

'Hi' Brooch Tutorial

Hey Guys!
This is gonna be a super quick post on how to make the brooch that I was wearing in my last outfit post. The inspiration for this brooch comes from Midge's outfit post on her blog Modern Girl Blitz ( I mean the brooches aren't that similar but they both say hi in one way or another...) I want to be Midge when I grow up. Anywhos, on with the tutorial!

me, wearing the brooch^

Things you will need!
  • Some sort of string/rope/cord/etc.
  • ModPodge. If you don't have any here's a tutorial on how to make your own!
  • wax paper
  • scrap paper
  • paint
  • pin(s)
Getting Started!

So, first thing coat all of your string in the ModPodge. You want just enough that the string is fully covered, yet not so much that it's completely soppy. Lay this on the wax paper and let it dry...for hours. Patience is a virtue.

Once your brooch is dry, remove it from the wax paper. Don't worry if the paper rips, you're done with it at this point. Cut off any excess string from the brooch.

Now paint it! If you've done this with pretty ribbon...which I will sometime, you won't need to pain. However, I wanted to. This step is optional.

Pin it! I chose to skip gluing a pinback like these onto my brooch, and instead pinned it to the inside of my shirt with safety pins. Whatever floats your boat.

Tadaaa!

Hope you guys enjoyed!!

Hi! OOTD

Hey Guys!
So today I got to take a little break from studying for my exams and actually leave my house for the first time in about 72 hours. Anyways, I decided to do an outfit post because I liked what I was wearing. I was inspired by one of Kate's recent OOTDs on Scathingly Brilliant where saw how nicely red and lavender worked together. Anyways, this is what I wore today:

P.S. I'll hav the tutorial for my "hi" brooch up later.

Hope you guys enjoyed!

Super Quick 50's Inspired Makeup

Hey Guys!

Today I'm gonna show you how to do a mini 50's inspired look. I love this because even when I feel totally disgusting and have absolutely no time to spare, this makes me look so much cuter and more...put together? I got the idea of doing this from Tavi Gevinson's video on the 2 minute beehive. (Fellow Rookies will know what i'm taking about...) Anyways, this is what I do to look put together in this 50's inspired look in  less than 10 minutes!

The finished look!

Let's start!

1. Start with a clean washed face!

2. Put on winged eyeliner...this may add to your time, but the more practice you've had the faster application is.

3. Put on red/pink lipstick.

4. Put your hair up in a high bun. *This may require a few bobby pins on top of a hair tie if you really want it to stay.

4. Take a bandana/scarf of your choosing and fold it to whatever thickness you want.

5. Tie it in a knot at the top of your head.
Voila! Done!
Here are a couple more pictures.

Bye! Off to more pointless chem revision! Don't I look thrilled!

This Looks Like the Work of Philip

No it doesn't. It really doesn't. That was just a reference from Ghost World.
Anyways, hey guys.
Basically I was sick for about 5 days last week. It was really, really boring.
Anyways, while I was sick I spent tons of time in bed mostly watching movies. Do you ever get the feeling sometimes when you're watching a movie that you're watching the movie because it was something you were meant to see because it kind of applies to your own life? Like fate... I guess that sounds a little paranoid and self-obsessed, but I would like to think that there's a deeper meaning to things. It gives me something I believe in, but that's a post for another day. Anyways, I had that feeling about Ghost World. You have probably already heard about Ghost World- it was originally a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes which was turned into an amazing movie. I can't really say much about how the movie compares to the graphic novel as I haven't read it even though I really want to.
Basically Ghost World deals with two friends, Enid and Rebecca both recent highschool graduates transitioning into normal life. I guess I could relate with some of the issues in the movie; isolation, of course, but also with the feeling that gradually all my friends will grow up and change so much that they no longer see why they liked me so much in the fitst place. I've always (mostly) known who I am, and I don't plan on ever changing. I mean, I'm very proud of that, but still.
Anyways, here are some stills from the movie.

So basically to sum this all up: Ghost World is amazing. I haven't read the graphic novel yet, but I reaaallly, really want to. It costs a fortune to ship anything to where I live, I know I can probably read it online, but still, I want to actually hold (and smell) my own copy...maybe i'll order it for my next birthday. Oh, and speaking of next birthdays can someone PLEAAASE get me this cake? (Except change 24 to 16.)

Hope you guys enjoyed :)
